Fuel Rail / System Pressure - Too Low
|
DESCRIPTION
The high-pressure direct injection fuel system consists of a spill control valve, check valve, fuel relief valve, fuel pressure sensor (for high pressure side), fuel pump assembly (for high pressure side) and direct fuel injector assemblies. The spill control valve adjusts the return volume of high-pressure fuel. The check valve mechanically opens and closes the path to the fuel delivery pipe. The relief valve releases the fuel back to the fuel tank if there is a malfunction in the high-pressure fuel system. The fuel pump assembly (for high pressure side) is installed to the cylinder head cover and operated by a cam installed to the end of the exhaust camshaft. Rotation of the camshaft moves the pump plunger inside the fuel pump assembly (for high pressure side) up and down, pressurizing the fuel. The pressurized fuel opens the check valve and is pumped into the fuel delivery pipe. The ECM controls the spill control valve to adjust the fuel pressure between 2.4 and 20 MPa (25 and 204 kgf/cm2, 348 and 2900 psi) and monitors signals from the fuel pressure sensor (for high pressure side) to maintain the target fuel pressure.

-
The actual fuel pressure value is lower than the target fuel pressure value by 2 MPa (20.4 kgf/cm2, 290 psi) or more for 15 seconds or more during port injection only.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
HINT:
-
When clearing the permanent DTCs, refer to the "CLEAR PERMANENT DTC" procedure.
-
Permanent misfire and fuel system DTCs can only be cleared when performing the universal trip driving pattern when no malfunction is detected.
-
Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
-
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
-
Turn the Techstream on.
-
Record the Freeze Frame Data.
-
Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
-
Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
-
Start the engine.
-
Turn Techstream on.
-
Based on the engine speed, engine load, injection mode and other conditions displayed in the Freeze Frame Data, reproduce the conditions present when the DTC was stored.
-
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
-
Read the pending DTCs.
HINT:
-
If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
-
If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
-
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
-
Input the DTC: P008700.
-
Check the DTC judgment result.

HINT:
-
If the judgment result is NORMAL, the system is normal.
-
If the judgment result is ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
HINT:
Read Freeze Frame Data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as Freeze Frame Data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
(a) Check around and beneath the vehicle for fuel leaks, fumes, etc.
OK:
No fuel leaks present.
