PROCEDURE

1. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY

2. DRAIN TRANSFER OIL

(a) Stop the vehicle on a level surface.

(b) Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, remove the transfer filler plug and gasket.

*1 Transfer Filler Plug *2 Transfer Drain Plug

(c) Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the transfer drain plug and gasket and drain the transfer oil.

(d) Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the drain plug.

Torque:

39 N·m {398 kgf·cm, 29 ft·lbf}

3. ADD TRANSFER OIL

(a) Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, remove the transfer filler plug and gasket.

SST: 09961-00950

(b) Add transfer oil.

Oil grade:

Toyota genuine differential gear oil LX API GL-5 or equivalent

Viscosity:

SAE 75W-85

(c) Pour oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.197 in.) from the bottom lip of the transfer filler plug hole. NOTICE: When adding oil, pour it slowly. Add oil a little at a time, waiting several minutes between each addition of oil. Too much or too little oil will lead to transfer problems. Standard capacity: 0.40 to 0.50 liters (0.43 to 0.52 US qts, 0.36 to 0.44 Imp. qts)

(d) Wait approximately 5 minutes and check that the oil level has not changed.

(e) Using SST, 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and union nut wrench, install a new gasket into the transfer filler plug, and then install the transfer filler plug. SST: 09961-00950 Torque: Specified tightening torque : 39 N·m {398 kgf·cm, 29 ft·lbf} HINT: Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench. Click here When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.866 in.)) + SST (fulcrum length of 150 mm (5.906 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 180 mm (7.087 in.)): 19.9 N*m (203 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
