Title: NETWORKING: CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (for Gasoline Model): Open in Bus 2 Main Bus Line; 2019 - 2021 MY RAV4 [11/2018 - 12/2021] |
Open in Bus 2 Main Bus Line
|
DESCRIPTION
There may be a short circuit between the CAN main bus wire and/or CAN branch wire when the resistance between terminals 18 (CA4H) and 17 (CA4L) of the central gateway ECU (network gateway ECU) is below 54 Ω.
Symptom
|
Trouble Area
|
Resistance between terminals 18 (CA4H) and 17 (CA4L) of the central gateway ECU (network gateway ECU) is below 54 Ω.
|
-
Open in CAN main bus wire
-
Central gateway ECU (network gateway ECU)
-
ECM
-
No. 3 CAN junction connector
|
This malfunction is not related to the lines of a CAN branch or to ECUs or sensors connected to a CAN branch.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
CAUTION:
When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
HINT:
-
Operating the ignition switch, any switches or any doors triggers related ECU and sensor communication with the CAN, which causes resistance variation.
-
Even after DTCs are cleared, if a DTC is stored again after driving the vehicle for a while, the malfunction may be occurring due to vibration of the vehicle. In such a case, wiggling the ECUs or wire harness while performing the inspection below may help determine the cause of the malfunction.
PROCEDURE
1.
|
CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (NO. 3 CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR)
|
(a) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
(b) Disconnect the No. 3 CAN junction connector.
