REPLACEMENT
PROCEDURE
1. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY

2. DRAIN TRANSFER OIL
(a) Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
(b) Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, remove the transfer filler plug and gasket.

(c) Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the transfer drain plug and gasket and drain the transfer oil.
(d) Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the drain plug.
Torque:
39 N·m {398 kgf·cm, 29 ft·lbf}
3. ADD TRANSFER OIL
(a) Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, remove the transfer filler plug and gasket.
SST: 09961-00950
(b) Add transfer oil.
Oil grade:
Toyota genuine differential gear oil LX
NOTICE:
Using transfer oil other than the specified oil may cause abnormal noise or vibration, or damage the transfer of your vehicle.
(c) Pour oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.197 in.) from the bottom lip of the transfer filler plug hole.
NOTICE:
-
When adding oil, pour it slowly.
-
Add oil a little at a time, waiting several minutes between each addition of oil.
-
Too much or too little oil will lead to transfer problems.
Standard capacity:
0.36 to 0.42 liters (0.381 to 0.443 US qts, 0.317 to 0.369 Imp. qts)

(d) Wait approximately 5 minutes and check that the oil level has not changed.
(e) Using SST, 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and union nut wrench, install a new gasket into the transfer filler plug, and then install the transfer filler plug.

Torque:
Specified tightening torque :
39 N·m {398 kgf·cm, 29 ft·lbf}
NOTICE:
After adding oil, drive the vehicle and recheck the oil level (Click here
).
HINT:

Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.866 in.)) + SST (fulcrum length of 150 mm (5.906 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 180 mm (7.087 in.)): 19.9 N*m (203 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
