INSTALLATION
CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
HINT:

Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

The following procedure is for the LH side.
PROCEDURE
1. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY LH (for 2WD)
(a) Install the rear axle hub and bearing assembly and rear disc brake dust cover sub-assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque:
90 N·m {918 kgf·cm, 66 ft·lbf}
2. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY LH (for AWD)
(a) Align the matchmarks on the rear drive shaft assembly and rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the thread portion of the rear drive shaft assembly.

(b) Install the rear axle hub sub-assembly and rear disc brake dust cover to the rear axle carrier with the 4 bolts.
Torque:
90 N·m {918 kgf·cm, 66 ft·lbf}
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot.
3. INSTALL REAR DISC (for AWD)

4. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH (for AWD)

5. TEMPORARILY INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for AWD)
(a) Clean the threaded parts on the rear drive shaft assembly and a new rear axle shaft nut using non-residue solvent.
NOTICE:
-
Be sure to perform this work even when using a new rear drive shaft assembly.
-
Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign matter.
(b) Using a 30 mm socket wrench, install the rear axle shaft nut.
Torque:
216 N·m {2203 kgf·cm, 159 ft·lbf}
NOTICE:
Stake the rear axle shaft nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.
HINT:
Depress the brake pedal to prevent the drive shaft from rotating.
6. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH (for AWD)

7. REMOVE REAR DISC (for AWD)

8. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS

9. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT

10. INSTALL REAR DISC

11. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH

12. CONNECT REAR FLEXIBLE HOSE

for 2WD: Click here

for AWD: Click here
13. STAKE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for AWD)
(a) Using a chisel and hammer, stake the rear axle shaft nut.

14. CONNECT NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE WIRE ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)
(a) Connect the No. 2 parking brake wire assembly connector to the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
15. CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR (for AWD)
(a) Connect the skid control sensor to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the bolt.
Torque:
8.5 N·m {87 kgf·cm, 75 in·lbf}

16. CONNECT NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE WIRE ASSEMBLY
(a) Connect the No. 2 parking brake wire assembly connector to the parking brake actuator assembly.

17. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

18. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL (w/o Vacuum Brake Booster)
(a) Connect the reservoir level switch connector.
(b) Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

(c) Perform the following procedure if air bleeding is not necessary:
(1) Turn the ignition switch on (READY).
(2) Depress the brake pedal and release it.
(3) Clear the DTCs.
